Description

The Caterpillar Diesel No. 12 Motor Grader was the standard construction tractor supplied to military engineering battalions during World War II. The No. 12 grader was a versatile tool that could be used for many purposes, including ditching, snow removal, and road maintenance. American and Allied Military engineers heavily relied on the Caterpillar Motor Grader for Airfield construction and maintenance. It was used to prepare the ground for runways by leveling, removing obstructions, and compacting soil.

Engineers also heavily relied on the Caterpillar Motor Grade to construct and repair major roads and highways used to transport vital supplies to the frontlines. The tractors easily removed debris, filled dangerous potholes, and removed obstacles placed by Axis forces to slow troop movements. The Caterpillar was also used to level areas selected for temporary camps, ammunition depots, and more permanent operating locations. Caterpillars were sent across the globe and performed admirably, supporting the U.S. and Allied forces on every continent except Antarctica.
